Layout Description:
Time era is 1956. Modeling the Green Bay and Western with modeler's license. GBW dieselized in 1948, so the GBS is all diesel. The GBW discontinued passenger service about the time the host was born, so the GBS is freight only.
Scenery is roughly 80% complete with structures running from typical plastic kits to craftsmen and scratchbuilt. There are seven completed Fine Scale Miniatures structures. The track plan for Norwood Yard in Green Bay is a shortened duplicate of the prototype yard.
Crew:2 - Yard Operators
1 - Ferry Yard Crew
5 - Road Crews
Operations Scheme:
The GBS operates as a point to point railroad from a prototype size car ferry (mock-up ferry) at Kewaunee on Lake Michigan through Norwood Yard in Green Bay to Amherst Junction where the GBS interchanges with the SOO. There are also interchanges with the Milwaukee and CNW in Green Bay and the Ahnapee and Western. Staging is on the lower level duplicating the footprint of the second level operation deck. There are approximately 60 staging tracks with access to the operating level via two helixes and the two interchange tracks for the CNW and A&W. The trainmaster (host, trouble shooter) brings trains up from staging. All trains have set-outs and pick-ups to complete. The through trains between Amherst Junction and Kewaunee (car ferry yard) work the interchanges. The local trains have 10 towns or switching points to work. The Norwood Yard peninsular also has the Riverview Industrial District served by three local switch jobs working different areas of the District.
