Accessibility:
The layout is in its own building so it is accessible by wheelchair. The layout id double decked, with the On3 Narrow Gauge on the upper level and the O Standard Gauge located on the lower level. The aisles are over 3’ wide for easy passing. Some congestion can happen when working where the standard gauge and narrow gauge switching areas are on top of each other. Floor is padding over concrete except in new section which has padding in working areas.
Layout Description:The time period I model is 1938, so mostly steam with a few early diesels just coming into service. There are two railroads.
The Sierra Railroad is a standard gauge, that runs from the yard in Oakdale, California through Jamestown and into Tuolumne to service the sawmill. There are several smaller towns along the route that depend on the railroad. Most trains on this short line are 5 to 6 car trains that switch towns and industries along the route. Traffic is mostly freight service with an occasional passenger train. Like the Sierra, Santa Fe has trackage rights over the line to service the mill at Tuolumne.
Tall Pine Lumber Company is the narrow gauge line running out from Tuolumne into the Sierra Mountains servicing lumber camps bringing the logs back into the mill. Along with the log trains there are freight and passenger service to service towns and the lumber camps.
The layout is about 85% sceniced with many prize winning structures on the layout.
Crew:Yardmaster in Oakdale
Yard Hostler in Oakdale (also services the industrial area)
Yardmaster in Tuolumne
2 Road operators on the Narrow Gauge
2 Road operators on the Standard Gauge
I usually try to rotate the road jobs so you will run on the narrow gauge and standard gauge during a session
